Learn to Ride, Barrel Race, and Skijor

Kaitlyn Hoyt and her team offer a regular schedule of private, semi-private, and group horseback riding lessons with their beautiful, well-trained lesson horses. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced rider wanting to hone your skills, there are horses and instruction options for you! You can see the full schedule and sign up online here.

Lesson Options

Beginner Horsemanship:
For beginner riders. Riders will perfect tacking on their own, learn safety around horses, and practice walking, trotting, and cantering while developing a confident seat in the saddle.

Intermediate Horsemanship:
For riders who are comfortable walking, trotting, and cantering. Riders will be expected to groom and tack up their horses without assistance. Lessons will focus on learning skills such as varying stride and pace at different gaits, advanced maneuvering, working through agility patterns, etc. Lessons are focused on rider development while also having fun!

Adult Horsemanship:
For adult riders of all levels. Lessons will focus on building a rider's sense of confidence in the saddle. These adaptable sessions are perfect for adults who are coming back to horseback riding after time off. We’ll tailor each session to riders that are in the class and develop relevant skills while enjoying our time on horseback!

Beginner Barrel Racing:
Riders must be comfortable walking, trotting, and cantering on their own in the arena. We'll teach you all the skills to ride a barrel pattern and manage horses’ stride and pace to build agile turns. Riders who participate in the membership plan will have the opportunity to participate in local barrel races with the KH Horse Consulting team.

KH Barrel Team Practice:

For existing clients and racing team members to hone their barrel skills. We’ll run turning drills, work on connecting closely with your horse, and develop a sure seat that serves you well in local races.

Beginner English Horsemanship:
For riders wanting to learn how to use and ride in English equipment. We’ll help you develop an English seat, focus on bringing horses on the bit, and practice riding over poles and jumps. Even if you’re a Western rider, riding English is fun, exciting, and empowering, and will help you become a more versatile horse person.

Munchkin:
Riding is so fun for kids! Munchkin classes offer 30 minute sessions for little ones younger than 10 years old. Parents and children will learn how to safely interact with horses, groom and tack up their horses, and lead children through a riding course. Bring your kiddos in to learn how fun horseback riding can be.

Skijoring Practice:

Each winter, you can learn to pull skiers with horses with the KH team. Whether you’re a skier or a rider, try this exciting new sport

• All riders are encouraged to wear an equine-certified riding helmet whenever they are mounted on a horse. Riders under 18 are required to wear a helmet, and riders over the age of 18 must sign an acknowledgement stating that they are choosing not to wear it. If you do not have a helmet, you are welcome to use one of ours.
• Please come dressed ready to ride (long pants and boots with a heel).

• Kaitlyn is a mother of two beautiful children, so please be understanding that some lessons may have to be canceled due to family emergencies.
• Lessons will be canceled if temperatures are below 20 degrees or for other inclement weather for horse and rider safety.
